WP2

WP2 – Experiments for model validation

Objectives: Acquisition of the relaxometry profiles of a collection of paramagnetic nanosystems, compartmentalized systems, model tissues, ionic liquids and tissue samples.

Task 2.1. MRI contrast agents – (UMONS) Synthesis of various nanosystems of different size and surface coating, based on silica nanoparticles encapsulated with different Mn-complexes. Nanoparticles with Mn-complexes grafted at the surface will also be produced; (BRACCO) Synthesis of Gd-DOTP derivatives.

Task 2.2. Biomolecules and tissues – (UNIFI and CIRMMP) production of proteins (e.g., asparaginase) made paramagnetic by attachment of a paramagnetic tag (e.g. Gd-DOTA); (UWM, UNIFI and CIRMMP) peptides, proteins (including also paramagnetic proteins), dendrimers and dendrons in non-hydrated and hydrated (including solutions) states, as well as dendrimers and dendrons carrying paramagnetic species; (ABDN) human tissue samples for experimentation; (ABDN, UNIFI, CIRMMP and UWM) development of tissue models using hydrogels, liposomes or cross-linked proteins.

Task 2.3. Advanced materials – (UROS and IST) model ionic liquids and electrolyte solution.

Task 2.4. Instrumental improvements – (STELAR and UNIVAQ) the detection system will be redesigned in order to improve the SNR, 2) allow for the observation of different heteronuclei, 3) speed-up high-throughput analysis of data.
